The Pre-Primary room
In the Pre-Primary room, children from 18 months through 3 years work on independence and language. The environment is rich in language materials. There are many chances to practice new social skills and to try things alone.
The Practical Life area holds materials and activities that build independence, concentration and motor skills. Children learn self-care: washing hands, putting on shoes and jackets. Grace and courtesy lessons happen throughout the day, so children practice treating friends, teachers and the room with care.
With a teacher's careful guidance, children choose their own activities and move freely as they explore. They get time to finish what they start, at their own pace. The staff bring the warmth and patience this age needs.

What this looks like in practice
In a Pre-Primary room, children move through the morning at their own pace. They choose work from open shelves, carry it to a table, and finish before putting it back. Practical life materials fill much of the space. A child might spoon, pour, button, or scrub. Teachers stay nearby and step in when help is needed, then step back.
What you notice at home comes later, in small moments. Your child reaches for their own shoes and works the strap. They carry their plate to the counter. They wait while a friend finishes a turn. These are the first signs that independence is settling in, and they tend to arrive without announcement.
